Day Four: Cape Town to Durban

I’m a big believer in the Sabbath. Even when it seems like there aren’t enough hours in the day I do my best to take a day of rest. Though I had no involvement in planning my schedule for this trip, today was naturally a day off because most businesses in Cape Town are closed on Sunday. There were no stories to capture or places we had to be, so instead the Schroy’s (my hosts) planned a fun day for us all in wine country.

I’ve never been the type of person to hit up a winery, but after visiting three of them today it’s easy to see why they are so popular. Each of them were stunning and unique in their own right, and their beauty was paired nicely with the perfect spring weather.

Even though it was my day off I couldn’t resist doing a little photo shoot for the Schroy’s. I mean, when you’ve got a beautiful setting and a beautiful family and a professional photographer with time to spare it would be a shame to not take pictures. Besides, they have gone so far out of their way to host me on this incredible trip, so I’m grateful I could give them some personal memories to mark this time in their lives.

After visiting the third winery (apparently they’re not just called vineyards) it was time to head to the airport. Jedd and I flew to Durban where we met up with Michelle who was on the ground here today getting everything ready for the next couple days of shooting. Janelle and Marisa are going to meet up with us in Johannesburg on Tuesday. However, they are driving, not flying. And it’s a 14 hour trip. …with three little kids in the back seat. Pray for them tomorrow as they come to mind. It’s a huge labor of love, and they’re doing it all because we want to give our best to this project. I dare say the final book will be evidence of the hard work that has been poured into it.

Tomorrow is our earliest and busiest day yet. We’ve got to leave our hotel at 5:15 AM. We’ll be shooting six individuals plus some B-roll type images. If everything runs on schedule we should be back to our hotel around 11:00 PM. Let’s just say we’ve got our work cut out for us. All for now!
